The meaning of the seashell
Our logo is shaped by the image of a shell. As is clear by our name, Institute Sound of Shells takes great inspiration from this mystic symbol, because — like ISOS — the shell represents growth, connectivity, and renewal.
The emblem is sacred in all ancient cultures. In Hinduism, for example, the sound from the conch shell is associated with the sacred syllable 'Om' which is believed to be the first sound of creation. The Moche culture of ancient Peru — who worshiped animals and the sea — often depicted shells in their art. Seashells are an ancient Christian symbol referring to religious pilgrimages and spiritual protection, and were also used as the symbol of rebirth. Here on earth the shell is a symbol of life and water.
Meet the Founder
Angela Sommerfeld
For 35 years, Angela Sommerfeld has dedicated herself to uncovering and understanding the mystery of life through a variety of contexts.
As a professional trumpet player, she learned from an early age the importance of music in self-expression, mental alertness, and mood improvement, which is why you will often find live performance incorporated into her retreats, workshops and lectures. In addition to gifting her with this appreciation, her instrument of choice led to her awareness of breathwork — another critical area of her findings and a large part of her practice in pedagogic, systemic- and addiction therapy.
Angela’s purpose as a Naturopathic Practitioner is to aid the world’s future leaders in their personal development through various holistic methods — to help them experience their connection to creation beyond their everyday limitations. She will guide these introspective seekers deep into their consciousness using sound, intention and the breath of life to encounter the sacred that is just waiting to be discovered.
